Monthly Workshop – Burnout, Boundaries, and Self-Compassion

Most of us entered this field because we felt called to help others whose struggles we could relate to. We want to make a difference in our communities. As we do the work, this aspiration then runs up against systems that are slow to change, overwhelming workloads, and people in immediate crises. Our desire to help is often so strong that we sacrifice our own boundaries and wellbeing.
There’s a complex relationship between burnout, boundaries, and self-compassion. It’s easy, as stress begins to set in, to tell ourselves that if we get more done that we will feel less stressed. But that only means we take more on in the immediate, and the flow of situations that need our attention does not decrease.
What can we do about our environment, relationships, and our mindset to prevent burnout and ensure that we are able to be present for people now and well into the future?
